NMS Utility

A small faceless AppleScript application that runs in the background and forces a system to sleep after a certain system idle, or some interval after the screen saver activates.  So basically it does what Energy Saver is supposed to do, but successfully. NMS solves for the constant and recurring problem of an invariably corrupt power manager preventing automatic sleep, especially on my laptop. This has solved my problems with frequent dead batteries, especially when I was counting on a little more life, and the occassional ruined battery. Now at version 2.2 R Final and 2.3 beta.

NMS is small, uses little computer power, and is without any stability issues I can find. It is managed and installed by a wrapper application now re-written in AppleScript Studio to make presentation of options easier, or just to make it gaudy (not sure yet).

NMS v2.1 is a major expansion of functionality over the original 1.x versions and NMS v2.2/2.3 is a major expansion over it.

It works in Panther and Tiger and sports a new Energy Saver Intergation mode.

KDE Launcher

KDE Launcher is a combination AppleScript Studio application and shell script that starts an (as tested) Fink install of KDE with its native window manager and with usable settings but using a separate and distinguished instance of the X11 that does not interfere with your normal X11 settings and so allow you to run a regular X11 using Apple's quartz-wm at the same time. Now at version 2.1.3 as a Universal Binary.

Requires a working KDE install and Apple's X11 (only tested with KDE as installed by Fink, but will likely work with others).
 

Recently upated for various Tiger related glitches.

Works in Panther and Tiger, not tested in Jaguar. A Fink install of KDE in Tiger can be hard to accomplish and people not willing to spend a day compiling from source may want to wait until the pre-compiled binaries are available.

Dock Launcher

Dock Launcher is an AppleScript Studio application that creates and maintains a folder of aliases to most or all of your installed applications. This folder can then be placed in the Dock to function as a "poor man's" pop-up launcher, or cringe, a Start Menu...spit...that is automatically updated as new applications are added or installed.  Now at version 2.1 beta. 

Recently updated for various Tiger related glitches. Works in Panther and Tiger.
